General Summary:

Join Qualcomm Technologies QCT Multimedia group and contribute to the Corporate & Industry-wide initiatives for developing data compression algorithms for multimedia services in wireless networks. You will participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of state-of-the-art real-time ultra-low latency hardware data compression codecs. You will work with hardware and software teams to come up with optimal solutions based on feedback from key internal and external customers. Offered positions range from engineer to senior staff level.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the conception, development, implementation and optimization of new algorithms allowing improved coding efficiency for various data sources and formats.

  • Identify research directions and manage development of codec improvements for both lossy and lossless compression methods.

  • Manage design trade-offs between compression performance and HW complexity.

  • Collaborate with global technology teams to collect and understand compression needs and translate these into codec tool requirements and develop a roadmap of feature enhancements.

  • Participate in the design and implementation of the next generation of Snapdragon solutions.

Skills/experience:

Ideal candidate would have the below skills/experience:

  • Excellent communication skills within cross-functional teams designing complex products

  • Industry or academic experience required in one or more of the following areas:

  • Digital signal processing, image/video processing, image/video compression or information theory.

  • Knowledge of computer architecture and hardware design.

  • Record of innovation: publications or granted patents in the areas of data compressions, including video and image coding, digital signal processing, or information theory.

  • Proficiency in C++ and/or C programming.

  • Knowledge of quantitatively assessing hardware implementation requirements of algorithms preferred.

  • Familiarity with high level language for data analysis MATLAB, Mathematica.
