Qualcomm Research Silicon Valley and San Diego is seeking for motivated and driven individual skilled in low-power machine learning algorithms development and their hardware implementation. The team has a history of research and development of ultra-low power computer vision systems that are now commercially deployed. The person will work on innovative projects in the area of embedded machine learning for vision & audio applications. The role covers a broad variety of tasks in the field on advanced machine learning with initial focus on the current project dealing with ultra-low power sensor systems and related hardware, algorithms and software. The person will be responsible for research, development and testing of machine learning algorithms and their implementation into prototype modules, with subsequent transfer to commercialization. It is expected that the individual will effectively collaborate with Qualcomm partners across different disciplines (systems, hardware, software, product management) from different groups/divisions/locations/industries. Part of the responsibility will be to support engagements on customer specific development requests and tasks.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:

• Hands-on experience in Machine Learning algorithm development for embedded applications,

• Solid understanding of digital logic design and implementations, in particular hardware accelerators and vision-specific processors and cores

• Experience building, creating, and debugging embedded system on target

• Track-record of developing and testing algorithms

• Excellent coding skills, knowledge of state-of-the-art programming tools and latest computer vision/machine learning libraries, like OpenCV, scikit-learn, etc.

o Proficiency in Python/C/C++/Matlab

• Good knowledge of image sensor systems, hardware and circuits is a plus

• Experience with working across functional boundaries to innovate and solve problems

• Strong team player, independent and motivated

• Experience with developing and testing algorithms for vision or audio sensor systems (e.g., object detection , visual/audio wakeword detection)

• Good knowledge of the state-of-the art and trends in the embedded machine learning (vision/audio) field, both industrial and academic R&D

• Experience with designing, training, and deploying neural networks (CNN/RNN) for computer vision or audio applications in one or more deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.).

o NN deployment experience on embedded platforms is a plus

• GPU programming experience with CUDA

• Experience with programming in ARM processors

• Experience with RISC-V

• Experience with making external customers successful on their end products

• Bachelor's, Master's or PhDs degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related fields

Physical Requirements

• Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to ½ mile.

• Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 5 lbs.

• Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).

• Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.

• Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.
