Job Overview

Join Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., based in San Diego, California, and contribute to the corporate and industry-wide initiatives for developing advanced video codec. The successful candidates will be part of the video R&D team developing next generation video coding technologies. You will participate in the design and implementation of video encoder, optimizing encoder algorithms such as mode decision, motion estimation, rate control, etc., enhancing quality through machine learning, and working with hardware and software teams to come up with optimal solutions for various platforms. Offered positions range from engineer to senior staff level. Responsibilities:

  • Design encoder architecture, functional models and data structure for efficient hardware and software implementation.

  • Initiate ideas, design and implement algorithms for superior encoder performance with reasonable complexity and implementation cost.

  • C and assembly level of coding and debugging. Optimize software module for performance improvement for various platforms.

  • Video codec prototyping on Qualcomm devices. Work closely with other cross-functional teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Industry experience in one or more of below skills required :

  • Background in digital image processing and image/video coding technologies.

  • Hand's on experience in relevant multimedia compression standards such as HEVC, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, and/or their related extensions

  • Software development skills. Proficiency in C and/or C+Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven record of encoder algorithm development experience, preferably with evidence of high-quality research results through publications or granted patents.

  • Knowledge of quantitatively assessing hardware implementation requirements of algorithms preferred.

  • Great analytical and debugging skills. Experience with code optimization and SIMD preferred.

  • Experience with video visual quality assessment and improvement, video pre and post processing, machine learning is a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills (written, and verbal).

Education Requirements

PhD or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science required. Relevant industrial experience preferred.
