• Construct a software abstraction layer to seamlessly support a variety of radio hardware configurations on a common protocol stack.

• Design and implement test mode interfaces to enable hardware characterization and tuning procedures to optimize RF receive and transmit performance.

• Optimize device control transactions to meet strict timing requirements for inter-RAT, multi SIM, and concurrent radio operations.

• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams within the overall modem organization: ASIC design, modem/RF systems, systems test, hardware, protocol, firmware, common software, power management.

The Ideal Candidate will have the following:

• College graduate with a BS/MS or PhD in CS, CE or EE and up to 8 years of software development experience

• Experience with RF test equipment measurements for power or spectrum or waveform quality in at least one cellular standard: NR5G, LTE, WCDMA/HSPA, CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA and GSM/EDGE.

• Experience with debugging embedded software using an in-circuit emulator (Lauterbach Trace32 JTAG) for an ARM processor

• Experience with development of Layer 1 (Physical), firmware or RF Driver software using the C programming language, for at least one of the following technologies: NR5G, LTE, WCDMA/HSPA, CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA and GSM/EDGE.

• Experience with embedded build systems including compiling, linking, loading, and executing firmware images

• Experience with power and spectrum signal analysis using IQ capture data

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 6+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 5+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

Designs, implements, verifies, validates, and commercializes Wireless WAN (or cellular) modem air interface RAN (Radio access Network) technologies by working on Modem access stratum and RF SW design, optimizations & algorithms, and with the RFFE team to define and guide the modem IP architecture, RFFE design, HW APIs, core systems algorithms and the right HW/SW/co-processor architecture. Works on the transceiver, and HW control and wireless Radio Access Stratum software implementation of a multi-RAT (Radio Access Technology) from industry specifications (most notably 3GPP with LTE and 5GNR). Has experience in the WWAN L1/L2/L3 specifications and can efficiently implement the shared resources of a multi-RAT modem. Works closely with other functional groups to develop a cost effective, high quality and high capability modem IP that meets industry and customer requirements with high performance (e.g., throughput, latency, power consumption) and acceptable cost (e.g., silicon area, calibration complexity, code size).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

• 6+ years of experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems.

• 3+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.

• 2+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director and above).

• 1+ year in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports (only applies to positions with direct reports).

• 1+ year of applicable wireless, semiconductor and/or embedded software industry experience.

• 6+ months of WWAN modem development specific experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Leverages expert modem knowledge (e.g., RF, baseband, signal processing, computer architecture, communication protocols, VLSI) and methodology to lead a major feature within modem access stratum/RF software; applies advanced understanding of other teams or domains; guides junior engineers in design and implementation; participates in project reviews and project meetings across cross-functional domains to deliver modem products that meet customer needs.

• Identifies issues or patterns of issues related to design and the implications for work within team; makes overall recommendations to address ambiguous or ill-defined issues, design architectures, generate solutions, and develop software models, code, and/or simulations; supports cross-functional efforts across multiple teams to design products and solutions and drives their implementation, meeting customer requirements and standards.

• Architects test environment to test/verify design for the sub-system; leads others to evaluate the impact of results and validate modem against specifications; advises multiple teams of engineers; reviews test plans; interprets results and feeds back to cross-functional teams.

• Provides technical expertise to resolve complex systems-level issues in access stratum/RF software during implementation and commercialization; drives cross-functional teams in modem bring-up and resolution of customer/field issues.

• Displays deep knowledge in multiple areas; acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitors' products, and advances in various engineering fields related to modem products and technology; shares knowledge of multiple areas within their team and across teams working on similar products.

• Writes clear and detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions for highly complex or difficult projects to ensure users and/or customers can easily implement output.

Level of Responsibility:

• Working independently with little supervision.

• Providing supervision to others who may be direct reports.

• Making decisions that are moderate in impact; errors may have relatively minor financial impact or effect on projects, operations, or customer relationships; errors may require involvement beyond immediate work group to correct.

• Using verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels; may require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.

• Working within prescribed budget and resources.
