General Summary

Provides highly visible customer support through the design and development of products (e.g., hardware, software, RF). Oversees any of the necessary diagnosis and troubleshooting of complex equipment and systems. Serves as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters and instructs customers on the design, development, selection, and use of equipment and systems. Interprets customers’ needs and determines appropriate course of action. Collects feedback from customers on the quality, applicability, and definition of products and informs the Business Units responsible for delivery of those products. Assists sales team in assessing potential application of company products to meet customer needs and preparing detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer applications/solutions.

The responsibilities of this role include:

• Working independently with no supervision.

• Making decisions that are significant in impact, influencing overall program or project success, finances, and/or the ability to meet objectives; errors are not readily apparent due to the complexity of work process/product or time between decisions and results; errors typically result in significant expenditure of time, resources, and funds to correct.

• Using verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. Role may require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.

• Some financial accountability (e.g., manages a small budget, has input into P&L).

• Having a great degree of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is making or directly making key decisions that have substantial impact on the organization).

• Completing tasks that require multiple steps that can be performed in various orders; tasks require simultaneously executing multiple cognitive abilities and maintaining information in short- or long-term memory.

• Regularly determines what needs to be done and is involved with sharing innovative solutions to achieve broad policies and objectives.

• Using deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required.

• Develops, redesigns organizational strategies and provides overall direction for various functional areas and/or entire organization. Has influence over the formulation and achievement of long-term business plans and objectives.


• Anticipates, identifies, reports on, and tracks gaps in product quality and develops plans to redress them.

• Oversees and monitors FAE relationships with customers, especially global top customers and other key accounts.

• Ensures that FAEs have the resources and processes they need in order to provide training and assistance to customers and internal partners.

• Sits in on calls or meetings with top customer accounts or global accounts to act as a technical expert; develops support plan outside of FAEs to ensure they are supported appropriately and negotiates technical solutions with internal partners to support customer requests.

• Tracks critical escalations of issues to other engineering groups and ensures that issues are resolved; identifies unresolved issues and escalates to appropriate level as necessary to ensure problems are resolved and closed; keeps stakeholders informed of progress; provides advance notice to manager regarding critical issues.

• Develops and tracks department-wide metrics that evaluate product success and customer satisfaction.

• Maintains expertise in a wide variety of Qualcomm products and related technologies, including product specifications, technologies, capabilities, customer user cases, etc.

• Partners with stakeholders to provide strategy for a wide variety of Qualcomm products and technologies, especially for global accounts that require coordination across regions.

• Works with business units, sales, and marketing to ensure the necessary demos are developed and meet customer demands.

• Reviews feedback with Qualcomm Marketing and R&D teams and provides recommendations to help drive development of future products.

• Oversees completion of global projects and ensures projects across regions are accomplished within timeline and budget.

• Provides feedback on product launch plans to business unit; requests feedback from regions when making recommendations.

• Works with Sales and Marketing teams to ensure that product documentation and training/help materials are of sufficient quality to release to customers.

• Collaborates with internal stakeholders to drive resolution of complicated technical requirements or documentation from customers.


  • Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to ½ mile.

  • Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 5 lbs.

  • Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).

  • Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.

  • Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelors - Computer Science, Bachelors - Engineering, Bachelors - Information Systems

Work Experiences:

8+ years Field Application Engineering experience or related work experience.



Preferred Qualifications


Masters - Business Administration/Management, Masters - Computer Science, Masters - Engineering, Masters - Information Systems

Work Experiences:

4+ years experience in relevant engineering areas such as hardware design, systems design, software programming, etc. ,15+ years Field Application Engineering experience or related work experience. ,4+ years experience working in a large matrixed organization. ,2+ years working with operating budgets and/or project financials ,3+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Vice President level and above) ,4+ years experience in a customer-facing role.
