General Summary:

Architect, design, implement, verify, and optimize visual fidelity, responsiveness, functionality, performance, and power of game applications for mobile, computer (PC), XR, console, and cloud products. Design and develop game rendering, game engine, game animation, game artificial intelligence, game networking, game user interface, game physics, and game audio software and algorithms for optimal execution on the application processor. Design and develop gaming related applications for several different hardware targets and operating systems. Develop and optimize new game software, game engines and gaming tools and enhance existing commercial game engines for several different hardware targets and operating systems. Design and build fully playable commercial quality games across multiple platforms. Develop and utilize gaming software running on CPU, GPU, DSP, NPU, DPU and other application processor components including developing new features and capabilities on all platforms for gaming. Perform system level profiling to identify performance bottlenecks and power inefficiencies in games and gaming use cases. Synthesize and run gaming benchmarks for different gaming use cases and analyze the data to provide feedback for processor design optimizations. Perform pre- and post- target bring up game verification to validate correctness and ensure performance and power goals are met for top games.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Game Development, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

OR

Master's degree in Game Development, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

OR

PhD in Game Development, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.

• 1+ year of relevant Gaming Software experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Game Development, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• 5+ years of experience with programming (e.g., C, C++, Python), computer architecture, or embedded systems.

• 3+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.

• 1+ year of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Principal/Director level and above).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Applies advanced gaming knowledge and design methodology in one or more areas (e.g., graphics, game development, interface design, character design, modes of play, game engine) to plan, design, and build features or efforts with a small team; applies understanding of other teams or domains; leads technical conversation in design reviews and project meetings within a particular domain to meet design requirements.

• Develops and reviews gaming software code written by others; identifies issues related to accuracy or reliability of design and development; weighs tradeoff against loosely defined requirements and identifies solutions; provides guidance to less experienced engineers and collaborates across teams to design products that meet customer requirements and standards.

• Develops test environments and comprehensive test plans to test/verify code or design for a set of features or an effort; works across teams to evaluate the impact of results and validate gaming software against specifications (e.g., power, performance); advises less experienced team members and engineers.

• Debugs complex gaming issues (e.g., rendered images, power, performance) and design experiments to prove or disprove theories, identify root causes, and develop solutions; addresses customer issues.

• Supports team's efforts to optimize new or existing game applications and features, finds and documents solutions to novel issues, and shares lessons learned with team.

• Executes the integration of gaming software into platforms and products; provides technical expertise to resolve moderately complex issues during implementation and commercialization independently across gaming teams; supports multiple gaming teams in pre- and post-target bring up game verification to ensure performance and power goals are met.

• Displays deep knowledge in a specific area; acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitors' products, and advances in various engineering fields related to gaming products and technology; shares knowledge with others on their team and helps less experienced engineers understand and apply advanced concepts.

• Contributes to conversations to generate new ideas for next generation initiatives; provides recommendations for new directions to explore.

• Writes clear and detailed technical documentation and feature descriptions for complex projects to guide users and/or customers to use or implement output.

Level of Responsibility:

• Works independently with some supervision.

• Provides supervision to direct reports.

• Responsible for own work; decision-making is limited. Impact of decisions is readily apparent. Errors made typically only impact timeline (i.e., require additional time to correct).

• Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to others who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question. Role may require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy, etc.

• Works within the prescribed budgetary objectives of the department. Erroneous decisions, failure to achieve results may cause delays in schedules and result in the re-allocation of some resources.

• Most tasks require multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; some planning and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively; mistakes may result in some rework.

• Exceptional creativity is needed to innovate new ideas and develop innovative products/ processes without established objectives or known parameters.

• Deductive and inductive problem solving is required; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required.
