Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering or related
Qualcomm’s SVE (System Validation & Emulation) team in Cambridge is responsible for SoC validation of Voice and Music and IOT chipsets. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Engineer who is keen to learn and develop a successful career within an innovative technological environment.
Based in our Cambridge office you will join the Digital team which has long-standing expertise and experience in delivering low-power, mixed-signal IC designs. The digital team works alongside analogue and chip implementation teams, focusing on RTL design of digital sub-systems and top-level. The role will be focused on Multiprocessor SoC emulation.
Our remit is to deliver first-time right designs to enable faster time to market. To support this goal, we are looking for an FPGA engineer to develop emulator images for our validation team.
You will be working within an established team, alongside experienced engineers with FPGA platforms. In this role, you will also work with HW designers, verification engineers and FW engineers based locally and internationally.
Comprehensive training and development will be provided, including mentoring, on the job training, technical and soft skills training as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
This team is responsible for:
(i) pre-tapeout validation of our designs, utilizing FPGAs as the validation platform;
(ii) post-tapeout bring-up, utilizing silicon.
This role requires the creation of FPGA images with support for debug for validation purposes. Specific tasks involve:
· Adapting the design for FPGA, come up with timing constraints, run synthesis, floorplan the design for target FPGA, run place & route tools and generate bit files.
· Work closely with Validation and Firmware engineers to instrument test structures for observing and logging signals during debug using ILA/Chipscope/LA
Key skills and experience
It would be advantageous to have a working knowledge of some of the following:
· FPGA platforms, Development boards/kits
· Direct hands-on experience with System Verilog, RTL/HDL, FPGA (Xilinx Virtex & Ultrascale+) and FPGA Tools (Xilinx)
· Expertise in all aspects of FPGA design; constraint definition, synthesis, floor planning, P&R, Timing closure, bitfile generation
· Experience with clock domain crossing, high speed designs, and timing closure techniques
· Exposure to VLSI design concepts, logic design in Verilog/VHDL
· Strong proficiency with FPGA EDA tools: Synplify, Vivado, ISE, Chipscope
· SW tools, JTAG/SWD debuggers, scripting, Python
· Operating test equipment, such as Oscilloscopes and logic analysers
The successful applicant will demonstrate a keen desire to learn, a proactive and enquiring attitude and excellent problem-solving skills. An eye for detail and a methodical approach to tasks is important as well as good communication skills.
