General Summary:

This position is for the Qualcomm Automotive Customer Engineering team in Europe, which closely collaborates with its automotive partners and customers from concept to commercialization. The hardware team is involved with all aspects of customer design activities from requirements, hardware design, hardware validation, through to certification, production, and post production support.

We are looking for a strong Automotive Hardware Team Leader with good knowledge and hands-on experience in design/development/debugging aspects of embedded automotive applications.

Responsibilities:

  • The main responsibility is to manage the HW Team to provide direct support to Qualcomm customers and partners with the design, development and debug of customer designs based on the Qualcomm reference designs, HW related issues and helping to customize/optimize the customer design to meet the product requirements using the features in Qualcomm SOC.

  • The candidate must quickly ramp-up to be effectively managing the HW resources, processes and tools to deliver on projects, understand automotive platform hardware/debugging and system architecture, demonstrate strong analytical and systematic problem-solving abilities to guide the team, and work closely with external customers to customize and launch their new products.

  • The successful candidate will get a chance to work with the team delivering cutting edge ADAS, Infotainment and Telematics hardware platforms from leading auto manufacturers and Tier1s and contribute to drive the projects through to commercialization.

  • The candidate will ensure stakeholder alignment: regular alignment with internal and external stakeholders, such as software teams, marketing, sales, core teams and suppliers.

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years Automotive Hardware Applications Engineering, HW Board Development and Debugging experience, HW Board Architecture experience with experience of leading a team delivering products from conception to production.

  • 5+ years of experience in an automotive customer-facing role

  • Overall responsibility for all EU projects from a hardware perspective. Experience with Embedded HW platform development, integration and debugging.

  • Risk Analysis of customer designs and Validation Plans

  • Responsibility for Successful Customer Board Bring Ups not only for HW but to support SW teams from System perspective.

  • Escalation path for Customers / Account Managers / HQ should there be any HW blockers or critical field issues

  • Good understanding of the architecture of an automotive embedded ADAS/IVI and telematics design

  • Design authority for customer programs (Reviews of Block Diagram, Schematics, Layout, DDR Simulation, PDN Simulation), Thermal / Power design discussions, Safety / FUSA reviews

  • Excellent issue triage and debugging skills with complex system level issues.

  • An intrinsic desire for systematic working and ability to deliver high quality results.

  • Good communication and excellent team leading skills, representing EMEA team within the Global Hardware Forum.

  • Quick adaptability to work in new technologies.

  • Ability to take up project management responsibilities and understanding of software development processes.

  • Consultation on HW related product requirements

  • Management of the HW team to be responsible for the career development, training and annual review processes, scoping and deployment of resources, including negotiating the geoshift of projects to alternative regions

  • Responsibility for the HW Tech Team to drive process improvements and new initiatives, knowledge sharing

  • This role involves European and global travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SOC designs in Automotive Infotainment, Telematics or Autonomous Driving projects, ideally with Qualcomm platforms

  • Experience in using debugging tools such as JTAG.

  • Excellent knowledge using common test equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyser, spectrum analyser, multimeter)

  • Like Power Delivery Networks and signal integrity for high speed interface like DDR, PCIe, UFS, Ethernet, USB, CSI and DSI simulations/debugging - Experiences in board

  • Good knowledge about peripheral bridge chips for USB, DSI, CSI and Ethernet connections in automotive designs

  • Experience with thermal and power consumption analysis and measurement techniques

  • Working knowledge of Functional Safety topics and specs.

  • Ability to mentor team members in technical topics and take a leading role in cross-functional discussions.

  • Project Management Professional Certification or Prince2 Project Management Certification

  • Driving license for Germany and ability to freely travel within Europe and North America.

  • Languages: English, German

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Electronics, or related field, (Masters Preferred)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.

OR

Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.

OR

PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
